If my insurance is listed, is therapy fully covered?
Not necessarily. Insurance companies offer many different plans, and each one sets its own benefits. What you pay can depend on your exact plan, your deductible, whether you have a copay or coinsurance, and the type of service you are seeking. Your insurer can confirm those details for your plan.
What Determines Your Therapy Cost?
Your insurance plan
Two people with the same insurance company can have different benefits. Your specific plan determines whether outpatient mental health services are covered and how they are billed.
Your deductible
A deductible is the amount you pay for covered care before your plan begins paying its share. Some plans have a separate deductible for mental health services.
Copay or coinsurance
A copay is a set amount you pay per visit. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit cost. Your plan may use one, the other, or neither for therapy.
Type of service
Individual, couples, and family therapy can be covered differently, and so can telehealth. Ask your insurer about the kind of session you plan to attend.
Your potential out-of-pocket cost
Your insurance company determines your benefits and what you ultimately owe. Even when coverage information is reviewed before care begins, New Purpose cannot guarantee an exact out-of-pocket cost. Your plan is the best source for details about your specific benefits.
Questions to Ask Your Insurance Plan
A quick call to the member services number on your insurance card can answer most cost questions. Keep this list open while you talk, and write down the answers.
Do I have outpatient mental health or behavioral health benefits?
Is New Purpose Counseling in-network under my specific plan?
Do I have a deductible for mental health services?
How much of my deductible have I already met?
Do I pay a copay or coinsurance for therapy visits? If so, how much?
Do I need prior authorization before starting therapy?
Does my plan cover telehealth therapy?
Is there a limit on the number of therapy visits per year?
Are individual, couples, and family therapy covered differently?
Representatives sometimes use terms like “behavioral health” or “outpatient mental health.” These mean the same kind of therapy visits this page describes.

1
Submit your inquiry
Complete the inquiry form with your contact details and insurance information. You do not need to know which therapist you want before reaching out.
2
Our team reviews the information
A member of the New Purpose team reads your inquiry and follows up with you about next steps, which may include insurance, services, and therapist considerations.
3
Continue with intake and scheduling
If New Purpose is an appropriate fit, you can continue through the intake and scheduling process.
Medicaid and Medicare
New York Medicaid
New York Medicaid is among the plans New Purpose works with. Eligibility and coverage depend on your individual plan, so share your information in your inquiry and our team will review it with you.
Medicare Part B
Medicare Part B is also among the plans New Purpose works with. Your own coverage and costs depend on your benefits, and our team can talk through the details after you reach out.
Don't See Your Insurance Plan?
If your plan is not on the list, please contact New Purpose before deciding therapy is out of reach. Tell us which plan you have, and we can talk through what options may exist.
Self-Pay
If you are thinking about paying for therapy without using insurance, contact New Purpose for current information about your options.
Does Insurance Cover Couples or Family Therapy?
Sometimes, but it depends on your plan and on the circumstances of the services. Some plans treat couples and family sessions differently from individual therapy, and the details are not the same from one plan to the next. When you call your insurer, ask about the specific type of session you are considering.

Insurance & Therapy Cost FAQs
Many plans include outpatient mental health benefits, but the details depend on your exact plan. Your insurer can tell you what is covered, what your deductible is, and whether you owe a copay or coinsurance.
It depends on your plan. Your cost may include a deductible, a copay, or coinsurance. Your insurance company can give you the most accurate answer, and the questions listed above are a good place to start.
A copay is a fixed amount you pay for each visit, often at the time of service. Some plans use coinsurance instead, which is a percentage of the visit cost. Check your plan to see which applies to therapy.
A deductible is the amount you pay for covered services before your plan starts sharing the cost. Some plans have a separate deductible for mental health care. Ask your insurer how much of yours you have already met.
Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask whether New Purpose Counseling is in-network under your specific plan. An insurer appearing on our list does not confirm every plan it offers, so your insurer is the most reliable source.
Some plans cover telehealth therapy and some have limits, so check your benefits or ask your insurer directly. Telehealth is available throughout New York State, and you can ask about it when you contact us.
Contact New Purpose before assuming we cannot work with your insurance. Tell us which plan you have, and our team can tell you what information should be checked next.
Your full name, date of birth, insurance company, Member ID, and Group Number if your card has one. We may also ask for a photo of the front and back of your insurance card.
Not with certainty. Your insurance company decides your benefits and what you owe, so it is the best source for exact numbers. Our team can walk you through the next steps once you reach out.
Some plans do, and some treat couples sessions differently from individual therapy. It depends on your plan and the circumstances of the services. Ask your insurer about couples therapy specifically before you schedule.
